I am experiencing a problem with getting Red Hat Enterprise Linux installed on ESX 3.0.1. I am using the LSI controller and when I specify one disk I can't see it.
If I create two disks then I can only see one.
At times I cannot see any disks.
Any Ideas?
Thank you in advance,
Michael
Hello,
This problem is now solved
Aparently it works when you click "Erase all data on the drive" during the partitioning of linux. By default we click "no" but when we agree to format the drive, it can find the drive..

Hello,
Moved to VM forum.
I assume this is with a VM.... Switch to the buslogic controller instead as the LSI Logic has some issues... Or you can get the latest ES4 Update and use it as it should contain the patch. NOt sure however, you will need to check the RHEL website.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
We have actualy already tried what you suggested, and when we change controller no disk can be seen. What i read in a "Guest OS Guide" is that there are issues with RedHat EL 4.4 in VM and it suggest updating to version 4.5. We are currently downloading EL 4.5 to see if this changes anything.
Does anyone know if we need a specific driver when installing Redhat EL Linux 4.4 for linux to find the disks ? This problem started in jan/feb, and was put on ice until now. I found back then some forum suggesting to load a driver for the disk (back then the problem was that the Redhat EL could not find the CD rom. Now the problem changed to RedHat EL installation can not find the disk. Could there be a problem using both IDE and SCSI devices on the same installatino ?
Any suggestions welcome
