ESX 3.0.1 - Linux Guests go ReadOnly

Hello,

My hopes for the 3.0.1 release solving this problem have been dashed. Per the suggestion of Vmware support, we ripped out our Qlogic HBAs and went w/ software iSCSI and upgraded our 3.0.0 machine to 3.0.1.

Same problem. Under heavy load, the Linux guests go into Read Only mode on their filesystem.

Consoles indicate the following:

SCSI Error : <0 0 0 0> return code = 0x20008

end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 4928181

Aborting journal on device dm-0

ext3_abort called.

EXT3-fs error (device dm-0): ext3_journal_start_sb: Detected aborted journal

Remounting filesystem read-only.

All guests are using the LSI-Logic driver and have the latest Vmware tools installed.

This is very clearly a Vmware issue, and we've now proven that it IS NOT related to the Qlogic QLA4010 HBAS, as we migrated to Software iSCSI and are getting the same problem.

Did you (or anyone) ever turn anything up on this issue?  We are recently seeing it frequently with CentOS volumes on ESX 3.5 226117 have filesystem isses and volumes being remounted as read-only.  Also occasionally I can manually unmount a filesystem, run fsck, and find errors.  This is very *disturbing*.

Kernel is 2.6.18-194.32.1.el5 with current VMware tools.

Volumes on an EMC AX4i iSCSI SAN.

I see this issue regularly. Using ESXi 4.0 and Sun Storagetek 2510 iscsi array.

Im wondering has anyone upgraded to ESXi 5 and still see these issues?

I'm running 5.1 and still see this issue with older Linux guests. The only fix is to upgrade the Linux guest.
