Drag & drop files through VSphere

Hi, Is it possible to drag & drop a file from my desktop to a ESX`s guest via VSphere Client ( i mean drag & drop it to the guest`s console) like I do between any file on my desktop and a VM Workstation`s guest ?

Thanks !

It is not possible under ESX since file sharing is possible only on workstation products, we can not enable file sharing on ESX VMware tools

It's not possible and I believe it is that way by design. Only the

client products like workstation can do this. Imagine you are being

hosted on an ESX infrastructure, do you really want Dr. Blackhat on a

VM on the same farm to be able to get anywhere near the ESX

infrastructure?

Hello,

In addition, regardless of the VM, ESX or VMware Workstation, etc. all the security guides specifically state this functionality should be disabled via isolation settings.

We are trying to find a "VDI" "Like" solution that we can have a ESX type server farm running Guest OS's of either Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP, however connect to them from XP/Vista clients.

Here is the scenario. We provide support services to large secure networks. In order to connect to the customer network, we typically have to VPN in with a VPN client of some sort. Most of the customers block "Split IP" which means once connected you lose all access to your network. So we have been using VMWare VSphere servers and connecting via the vsphere client to connect in the guest OS's of the vmware images. Once we are connected, we can see the customer network thru the console on the vsphere, however, we can also see our own network on our HOST PCs. So that way we can still get to the stuff we need to troubleshoot the problem.

The BIG downside right now, is that while we are connected to the customer network, there is NO way to pull files off that VMWare guest without disconnecting the VPN which sometimes will require us to call the customer back to get a new secure ID token. This stinks. This is where the 'drag and drop' file feature would be VERY nice.

Does anyone know of a VDI solution that would allow both access via a console (So when the guest OS loses access to the network you don't lose access to it) and ALSO drag and drop files?

Thanks!
