Certain VMs powered off after initating automated reboot via shutdown -r or XenApp Mgmt Console

We have certain VMs which are rebootet nightly or weekly via XenApp Management Console feature or via batch using shutdown.exe -r.

Certain of those VMs (and not event the same each cycle) are powered down instead of being restartet. The VM's log file indicates a graceful shutdown.

Does anyone know this issue? We've already upgraded the vmware tools because they where old , but without any improvement.OS is Windows 2003 Server SP2.

Any ideas?

Thx

Michael,

I have lots of XenApp servers (4.0 and 5) running on ESXi which are rebooted nightly. Never heard of a failed reboot where the VM was shut down in the morning.

A few days ago VMware posted a new KB article Determining why a virtual machine was powered off or restarted

Maybe this helps you find the reason.
