Carpserve.exe Adobe Application Error

Hello,

I work at the United States Patents and Trademarks Office as an IT Specialist and run into a problem which our group confirmed tha the problem is only happening on the Virtual Machine. The problem is when user(s) use the Recognize Text Using OCR feature in Adobe Pro 7.0.5 they receive the error similarly to the one below and its sparatic or random. We have tested the same exact steps and files on a physical machine and it runs fine without the error. Just wondering if anyone of you come accross this problem or similar error.

Carpserve.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x7c1910e03" referenced memory at "0x00002ea0". The memroy could not be written.

Acrobat could not perform recognition (OCR) because:

Unable to process the page because the paper capture recognition service experienced error (16001)

-

OS: Windows XP Pro SP2

Adobe: Professional v7.0.5

To prevent the error from happening all the time, we have lowered resolution which help but regardless the error still comes up. We have contacted Adobe but no luck. Thank you.

Pat, Did you open a case with VMWare?

Affected Platforms:

VMWare ESX Host

Windows XP SP2 / SP3 Guest

Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.0.5, 7.0.7 and 7.0.9

Problem:

When we RDP to our Windows XP Guest and attempt to OCR a PDF document in Adobe Acrobat Pro, Capserve.exe will randomly present the following error(s):

"The instruction at "0x7c9108d3" referenced memory at "0x00002ea4".

To recreate:

Setup a XP Pro SP2 / SP3 VM in ESX

Install Adobe Acrobat 7.0.5

1. Open a PDF

2. In Acrobat go to the Document Menu \ Recognize Text using OCR \ Start - Click Ok

3. If the scan completes close the PDF and repeat from step 1

Notes:

Process Monitor is showing references to "KeyedEvent \KernelObjects\CritSecOutOfMemoryEvent"
