Booting from ESXi Installation CD Problems

I downloaded the ESXi ISO and burned it to a DVD. When I tried to boot my destination server from this CD, the machine did not seem to recognize the DVD as bootable. I know that the boot order is correct as I've booted other OS setups from CD/DVD. Is there something I'm missing about this particular image?

Hi,

Can you please try again to burn the ISO in a cd, and then try to boot from the.

It happend in few scenarios , that the ISO burnt on to the CD might not be done properly.

Also , as a second option you can try to install ESX3i, using the virtual cdrom over the Remote console of the server.

Thanks for your quick reply. Having burnt ISO a few times using different tools, I think I'll have to give up on that option. Your second option, though, sounds promising. The virtual CDROM and remote console you're referring to I assume are not VMWare tools? If so, do you have any tips on where to look for those tools?

The remote console is the management interface of the server you have, nothing to do with the ESX installed in it.

for Dell server u have DRAC, and for HP you have ILO, and for IBM machine you have RSA as such.

You can try that.
