Boot on SAN - physical to virtual?

Has anyone ever had a physical server they had Boot on SAN and then shifted the boot system to a VM?

Wondering about hurdles etc. Never thought about it before but I just built a Boot on iSCSI guest VM and figured it would also be possible to assign that same iSCSI LUN to a physical server and so long as they weren't both active, I don't know why the physical couldn't boot either once all of the appropriate drivers were in place.

I can imagine a scenario where there is a VM sitting there in standby to be turned on in the event the physical boot on san server goes kaput. Long as all drivers are present, I don't know why it wouldn't be possible.

thoughts?

If all the drivers are in place mainly the SCSI drivers then you should be able to switch with ease
