We are using this Symantec product in order to create images for disaster recovery: 'Backup Exec System Recovery 7.0'
The tool : 'convert to virtual disk wizard' works fine and creates vmdk files. But after copying them to a certain vmfs volume on a san, these vmdk's don't popup when trying to create a vm using existing disks......
Copied them to an esx server 3.0.2.
That's what I would like to see, visible disks.
Anyone has a certain Idea why these disks are not visible, or did I forget one additional step to resolve the issue ?
Thanks for the time
regards,
John
Hi,
Don't create a vmdk file you can read with VMware Converter the Backup Exec System Recovery 7.0 file and import it to your Virtual Center or ESX.
You need 2 files test.vmdk and the test-flat.vmdk
Your test.vmdk should look like this make sure that vmdk points to the flat file.
Disk DescriptorFile
version=1
CID=0612923f
parentCID=ffffffff
createType="vmfs"
RW 41943040 VMFS "test-flat.vmdk"
#DDB
……….
…..
..
You can browse te datastore to see if the disk is available
Ok,
This is a helpfull answer. I created the *.vmdk file with the conversion wizard, but there are no flat.vmdk files. How can i create these ?
Only the *.vmdk files are visible.......
Thanks for the support ....
John
How big is this file?
Maybe you can use the vmware converter to try to read Backup Exec System Recovery 7.0 image or the vmdk.
Thanks for the reply
c drive.vmdk size 12 Gb
Can I read the vmdk file with vmware converter ?
Hi,
Don't create a vmdk file you can read with VMware Converter the Backup Exec System Recovery 7.0 file and import it to your Virtual Center or ESX.
Ok, this is what I am doing right now to solve the issue:
downloaded vmware converter
downloaded sysprep
Installed vmware converter and installed sysprep tool
convert the backup exec system recovery*.sv2i with the vmware converter tool (source) with the use of sysprep
choose the esx server and datastore (destination)
conversion is running right now
Will update this post as soon as conversion task has been finished
John
Conversion went ok.
I am running the same machine and conditions as a non domain machine within a switch without a physical nic connection.
So a fine test oportunity.
thanks for the help
