64bit Windows2003 VM's constantly blue screening

I'm having an issue with 64bit VM's within my VMWARE production environment.

I currently have a 4 x ESX 3.5 Host cluster with a shared iSCSI SAN .

Up until recently i was able to create new x64bit VM's without any issues.

Now i cannot create any x64bit VM's, when i deploy a new template or perform a full clean build of Windows 2003 x64, the server blue screen's and reboots constantly.

Now one of my live servers which was 64bit has also started blue screening.

I've no problems creating 32bit O.S's.

Has anyone seen this problem before?

Yep - open sysevent log with hexeditor.

CDprobe is mentioned twice - both with crash and dump - 7F

Can you attach the vmware.log file from one of the problem machines to your post?

I've had the same problem in ESX3.0.2, it turned out it was MS patch KB 932596. Removing this patch solved the issue. Have you got this patch installed?

It's happening on new builds of Windows 2003 X64 edition, R2 & SP2

Check out this thread -> http://communities.vmware.com/message/1034516#1034516

"Confirmation that MS hotfix 950772 has resolved the problems in our environment. It's been 3+ weeks now in all of our x64 systems (10 VMs) and no crashes. We were having a couple systems crash per week prior to applying the hotfix."

I've just tried a new build of Win2003 x64 with Sp1.

I've to update to Sp2 before applying that update.

Unfortunately the VM itself will only stay up & running for a few moments before crashing, so i cannot apply the hotfix.

another vmware.log file attached

You can try starting in safe mode. OR mount the VMDK with another VM and get the system event log.

The logs are corrupt. Can you open them with your event viewer and look for errors?

Ulli -

Did you get that from the sysevent log? I couldn't read it.
