2008 Server VM Screen Resolution

Hi Everyone,

Hope you can help with this funny I have at the moment.

Running vSphere 4. Just built a Windows Server 2008 Datacenter 32Bit VM. Everything looks good.

I have followed the following article to update the display adapter ;

http://www.boche.net/blog/index.php/2010/03/28/windows-2008-r2-and-windows-7-on-vsphere/

Only trouble now is... If I try & up the screen resolution from 800 by 600 to 1024 by 768 the screen just goes black. I have to press ESC to get it back to 800 by 600 so I can see whats going on again...

Previously built 2 64bit 2008 VM's & not had this issue... Something I am missing?

Hope you can point me in the right direction.

hummm... in 32 bit 2008 server if i take it down to 16 bit colours the 1024 by 768 resolution works... In 64 bit 2008 server both 16 bit & 32 bit colours work at 1024 by 768 resolution.

is this normal? i know its probably best practice to lower the colours any how for performance but why work in 64bit OS & not 32?

Cheers

after some time I found this info & thought I would share with everyone....

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=102393...

Basically change the total video ram to 8MB. This is set automatically by VMWare when you build a 2008 R2 server but when you build a 32 Bit 2008 Server its set to 4MB.

Easy when you know what your looking for Smiley Wink
