Opening snapshot disk in write mode?

Hello Folks,

Is it possilbe to open a snapshot disk(.vmdk) in write mode? It doesnt seem logical as we all know snapshot disks are readonly. But actually I am able to open a snapshot disk in write mode if the transport mode used is SAN. I am just curiuos if this is indeed correct and can I open snapshot disk in write mode if the transport mode used is NBD?

Thanks in Advance,

-Mani.

Yes, I come to the same conclusion. You can open delta files in write mode.

Thanks for your comments. But my only doubt is that why is it dependent on the transport mode used? As i mentioned above, I am able to open VMDK file for writng if the transport used is san. But opening the file for writing fails with access denied errors if the transport mode used is nbd.

Thanks,

Interesting.

I have not tested that. How do I set the transport mode explicitely?

I found some slides of VMware: http://communities.vmware.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/2655-212846-1268441-25126/vddk-coffee-tal...

Maybe that one clarifies your concerns?

Another discussion I found over here:

that probably is related to your issues!?
