Hello,

I guess it has ISO 9660 FileSystem.

Is that a problem?

should i find a way to convert it to UDF ?

Best regards.

It appears that build 17 OVA (http://www.rtfm-ed.co.uk/downloads/uda20-build17.ova.zip) is now a dead link.  Where can I find a copy of the OVA now?

Yes, sadly RTFM was untimely redirected by its owner TechTarget about 2-3 weeks ago...

I'm working with Jason Boche to find it a new home. In the meantime your best it is using the utlimatedeployment.org URL...

If you want the OVA file I think I could upload it else where - together with the .20 patch build...

Thanks for that... 🙂

It strikes me I rather dropped the ball on this one. To be honest I wasn't expecting TechTarget to do the DNS redirect thing so quickly. It shutdown my old RTFM mail (which also stopped a lot of spam!) and pulled the accessiability of the UDA earlier than expected. It happened during VMworld EU that didn't help...

Anyway, tommorow I'm going to establish a new page on mikelaverick.com for the UDA... will post a link to it when its ready, and will get Carl to change his URLs...

I wonder if someone can help me. I am using UDA 2.0_Build19 to deploy my esxi5 images through PXE boot to the hosts but I am having a problem when deploying it to a speficic blade server type. The problem happens when the setup is loading module ixgbe and then it comes up with a lovely purple screen saying something around the ixgbe_find_vlvf_slot and set_vfta_generic stacks. I know this is not a lot of info provided but  I can provide anything needed.

Can I ask what happens when you manually install ESX from the .ISO...? Same error or different error?

I'd confirm the .ISO you have is a good download by confirming the md5sum checksum, also makes sure you have the most recent build of ESX as well...

Normally, PSODs are the result of faulty or unsupported hardware....

Thanks Mike. If  I use the ISO directly the install goes through succesfuly. I am using the same ISO for two other types of blades and it works fine there.

mmm. Interesting... Without the same hardware this is going to be reproduce/troubleshoot... I'm clutching at straws here, it but it could be something like the card that's is used for the PXE boot is different one to the card being used for the remainder of the install. I've seen that happen on 2U/4U equipment - so the system might PXE boot from vmnic1, but the installer midway through enumerates the PCI bus differently...

Is the system in a VLAN configuration already...?

You might want to try doing the PXE boot in a native VLAN configuration to see if that gives results...

Finally, have you used the UDA before with success on any of these blades before. Is it just this blade or all of them...?

Regards

Mike

ps incidentally, the UDA has patch .20 which is slightly newer. Will probably make no difference in this case...

pps if you can't resolve this issue or need it resolved quickly - you might want to try UDA's rival EDA. If you get the same results it points to a hardware configuration. I doubt that the UDA or ESX is directly responsible for the PSOD as all they do is provide files across the network...

Thanks Mike. As far as I can understand it keeps the same nic for the installation. It's on a native vlan so that shouldn't be an issue. I had rebuilt these blades before with success, but now in 3 of them it's just doesnt work, it all fail in the same spot. I dont think there is something with the ISO or the hosts either, it must be some weird driver issue when bringing up the ixgbe interfaces.

I ll try the .20 patch and EDA as well, many thanks.

Yes. Perhaps its something funky to do with that driver in this release? I did google around the driver name and PSOD, and does appear to be some traction on the forums on that issue. But sadly nothing conclusive...

Please do come back with an update if you find anything as I'm sure it will help others...

Guys remember there is also activity on the forums of the UDA web site at http://www.ultimatedeployment.org/forum/.  It's not a huge amount, but problems are getting solved over there with patches, workarounds, etc.

Thanks - Pete

You can't post new topics. A few days ago I tried to post a question, and it didn' show.

Today I tried to post a tutorial, and it didn't show.

Anyone capable of resolving this?

I wanted to start posting some tutorials so more people will use this tool.

Hi David -

I have approved your posts and you should now be able to post immediately, without waiting for me to moderate the posts.  Sorry but we had to implement a policy of moderating a user's first few posts to try to limit the damage from the spam bots.  We probably get 400 spam postings for every real one.  I try to log in at least a couple of times per week to moderate the forums.

Thanks - Pete
