  • 1.  vm hardening and unmap and in guest unmap

    I'm going through the vSphere 6.5 hardening guide.  There are two settings for virtual machines that I have a question about.

    VM.disable-disk-shrinking-shrink

    VM.disable-disk-shrinking-wiper

    If I enable these settings for a virtual machine will unmap work from an ESXi host and will in guest unmap work from inside a virtual machine.  We have Pure storage arrays, vSphere 6.5 U1, with all virtual machines having updated tools, thin provisioned, and the latest hardware version.  So unmap from the ESXi server level and in guest unmap from within the virtual machine operating system are all working presently.  I'm wondering if these two settings would impact that functionality.

    FYI I think a great person to answer this is codyhosterman​ as he's done a bunch of work with Pure and these related storage issues.
