vVol and CBT

Hi,

I want to migrate my VMs with storage vMotion from an iSCSI Datastore to a new vvol Datastore and enable CBT.

My question is: Should I enable CBT before or after the vMotion? And can I enable CBT without bringing the VMs down?
Thanks

CBT is enabled automatically so there's nothing for you to do. Since you're considering VVols, please read this KB article and ensure your hosts are patched up past this level.

Hi,

Thank you for your answer, it's very appreciated. What do you mean by:

CBT is enabled automatically so there's nothing for you to do

If the VMs have CBT disabled I still have to enable it!?

Thanks

Have you manually disabled CBT on these VMs or something? Otherwise, CBT is enabled when a VADP-based backup is begun.

I have inherited this system from another admin, so I am not sure. I think the VMs have never been taken in backup by VADP-based backup. But they will be since we are planning to deploy Commvault once the VMs are migrated to the new storage array.

When I look a the Configuration Parameters of the VMs only 2 out of 70 have the ctkEnabled entry set to "TRUE".

CBT is enabled like I said. There's nothing left you need to do.
