Hello experts,
We currently have an VMware vSphere 5.5 environment with on most locations 2 ESX hosts and on bigger locations 3 ESX hosts. We want to upgrade our environment to 7.0.
Shall we go ahead with vSphere Essential Kit or is there any other feasible solution?

PK
That's really up to you, but two things you should consider:
Hi,
Licenses will be upgraded to the new version according to these rules:
ARomeo
Thank You
Thank you
Hi,
Can we use the license that are in one pack in different locations or do they need to be in the same data center?
We have in most locations 2 ESX hosts with 2 CPU’s in every host so a total of 4. So if we have 2 servers in Brussel and 1 in Gent can we use the 2 remaining license in Gent?

Hi Scott,
Thank you but not getting your statement..!Can you please elaborate?
Much appreciated.
Yes you can as long as the 3rd. Host in Gent joined the vCenter Essentials which running in Brussel or is a Standalone one. Your not allowed to install the vCenter two times.
Your vSphere Essentials doesnt contain any kind of Support... only Subscription and most likely it ended years ago. For customers with a lot of small locations VMware offer RoBo(Remote Office/Branchoffice) licenses which includes Support and Subscription. These RoBo are based on VM counting and not phys. CPU sockets and you are allowed to split the 25VM Packages into 25x 1 VM if needed and have license covered for 25 locations each with up to 3 Hosts. There is no vCenter included and the Hosts have to joined to a central vCenter Standard in your HQ.

You posted this thread into the VMware Cloud on AWS area, so as a forum moderator I moved it to the correct vSphere area.
To migrate to vSphere 7.0, your infrastructure must be at least vSphere 6.5. You need to upgrade your existing licenses or buy new licenses. You have vSphere 5 license, you can only use it in vSphere 5 versions. When purchasing a new license, you can still buy the same license or get higher licenses. This is entirely up to your needs.
