vSphere 7.0U1 : some problem with vCLS

Jump to solution

Hello,

Since I have upgraded my VCSA to the 7.0 update 1 version, I have some issue with one of my vCLS :

  • One warning is about cpu usage (but apparently, there is no activity...)
  • One warning about VMware tools missing in this same vCLS

Screenshot from 2020-10-14 10-01-23.png

When I open on this vCLS, we can see a "grub shell".

Any idea ?

Thx.

After stopping "VMware ESX Agent Manager" service, I deleted the VCLS and it have rebuild automaticly.

Thank you.

Have you tried to power cycle that vCLS?

Is it possible also to login into vCLS for diagnostic puposes following the next procedure: Retrieving Password for vCLS VMs.

Also if you are still facing issues maybe you can power it off, delete it and then vCLS service will re-create it automatically. The status of the cluster will be still Green as you will have two vCLS VMs up and running.

I tried to reboot the vCLS, same issue.

I can't login because I have only a grub shell.

When I stopped de vCLS, the system powered on it automaticly... (And stopped the HA change nothing)

Yes this happen because of the EAM service which maintain this VMs.

You can try to delete it as it will be re-created manually.

Yes I understand, but how I can stop the vCLS without automated restart ?

When the vCLS is running, it's impossible to delete it...

I assume if you stop EAM service you will be able. In my lab I could power-off and delete it like in seconds between those two actions and it was re-created.

Of course I am no 100% confident on saying this to you but if it is not a critical environment you could try doing that.

Just want to mention that in these scenarios you can also use retreat mode, which is described in this KB: VMware Knowledge Base
