vSphere 6.5 hosts and VM auto shutdown and startup

Hi,

We used to auto shutdown vSphere 6.0 servers using the following in sequence:

sbin/shutdown.sh

sbin/poweroff

We had set the VMs to be suspended. So, when we switch on the servers, the hosts were up and running too.

Now , we have upgraded to vSphere 6.5 and the above scripts no longer work. It throws an error and powers down the server without gracefully shutting down the VMs.

I have tried host_shutdown.sh, it suspends the servers and switches the vSphere server maintenance mode on.

When we power on the server, it stays in maintenance mode.

How do we set it, so that the vSphere server comes out of maintenance mode, VMs are also switched on when we physically switch on the sever?

Would really appreciate if anyone can help, thanks.
