vSAN HA

Hello.

I am hoping someone might be able to shine some light on an issue i am having. I have a two node vSAN 7 cluster and i also have the vSAN witness setup. I can migrate migrate a VM between hosts on the vSAN datastore with no issues.

I have DRS and HA set. But lets say i have a VM running on a host called ESXi02 and i pull the network cables out the back of the host. I would expect the VM to fall over to the other running host ESXi01. However it is just disconnecting ESXi02 and the VM shows as disconnected. It never gets restarted on the other running host.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

What is your HA configuration set at?  In this case, it's the host isolation, not host failure method you are invoking.  It sounds like you have Host Isolation disabled.

As above mentioned, it depends on how HA is configured:

  • Did you enable Host Isolation?
  • What is the Host Isolation Response?
  • What is the Host Isolation Address?
  • Did you remove ALL cables?

Keep in mind, as long as the two hosts can communicate HA will not kick in. As long as the "impacted host" can ping the isolation address, HA will not kick in.
