vCPU and Resource Pools

Topic Name : Add a Virtual Machine to a Resource Pool

Publication Name : vSphere Resource Management

Product/Version : VMware vSphere/6.5

Question :

Can someone explain the relationship between the vCPU designated for a VM and the CPU resources available in a Resource pool?  For example, if a VM with 2 vCPU and a VM with 4 vCPU have equal shares defined in a Resource Pool, don't they then have the same processing power?  Hope this makes sense.

Hi skellytx,

Not the same processing power but when the CPU is under contention, they would both get 50/50 access to the processor via the CPU scheduler. Note the only applies during contention - no contention for the resource then no sharing.

Kind regards.
