unable to add ESXI 6.5.0 (build 14320405) host to VMware VSphere (version 6.5.0.20000 build 9451637)

We are trying to add ESXI 6.5.0 (build 14320405) to VMware VSphere (version 6.5.0.20000 build 9451637) but getting following error.

ESXI 6.5.0 (build 14320405) host is otherwise accessible on web browser and we are able to login to VM using same root credentials.

Also we are getting proper ping response to/from esxi host IP/FQDN and  VMware VSphere IP/FQDN.

In addition to that we were able to successfully install and add 2 ESXI 6.5.0 hosts with same version from other locations to VMware VSphere (version 6.5.0) same version.

we do not suspect any issues with Network. Any assistance to fix this issue would be great help.

Thank you.

Hello All,

First of all thanks a lot for your valuable suggestions and troubleshooting steps.

Wish to inform you that the issue has been resolved.

Looks like it was duplicate IP issue, we have changed the IP address assigned to esxi host 6.5 and also modified DNS entry for the host and issue has been resolved.

Note :- we have just used another free IP address in the same subnet.

Thank you again.

your vcenter-build is too old - update vcsa to a newer build or downgrade the esxi - better the first option

Thanks for your response.

Follow your suggestion would be difficult as it is in production.

Having said that we were able to successfully add more than 10 numbers of 6.5.0 ESXI hosts to Vspehere same version.

we never came across such issue earlier.

Are you able to connect over port 902 ? If you were able to add other hosts and this one is failing because it belongs to different location/network then it seems to be port related issues.

Also if you are connecting host by name then check if you are able to resolve the name of the ESXi host from vCenter server.

I see your ESXi build is supported with vCenter build so that should not be an issue.

had this several times when esxi-version was newer than vcsa.

is lockdown mode disabled on this host ?

dns lookup and reverse lookup from vcsa to host is working?

check port 443 and 902 from vcsa to the host with nc

If the network connectivity is not an issue between esxi and vc, then vpxa.log inside esxi should be reviewed for error message.
