open vm tools vs vmware tools

Hi Everyone,

What is Vmware's official stance on Open VM Tools vs Vmware Tools?  We use RedHat in the office and open-vm-tools is easily accessible and part of the RHEL7 repository.

In the following KB, VMware recommends Open VM Tools but it does not explicitly say that it recommends it over the proprietary Vmware Tools binary.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could clarify VMware's recommendation on RHEL7 , be it Open VM Tools or VMware Tools.

On the HCL, Guest OS section, you can clearly see which packages are supported and even recommended like this screenshot from CentOS 7.x shows below.
