migrate virtual machine from one host to another with no share storage

Two questions:

1. if I cancel the migration in the middle of the process, will it ruin the server?

2. What is the correct way to cancel the migration job? I remember that last time when I did, I did not have the option to cancel the job. The cancel button was gray out.

Please advise! Thank you very much!!!!

Hi

1>Yes, There are chances that server may go bad.

2>Once the migration is started it is not recommended to cancel it, unless it is completed or error-ed out .

Please mark this as correct if this answers and helps you.

Agree with GayathriS.

As addition to this, you can cancel the migration job using PowerCLI

ohhh...I have to go to the option of copying virtual machine files then. I looked at vcenter and I found that I am able to copy the files from one host to another although there is no shared storage. One more question: besides the file with the extension vmdk, what other files shall I have to copy over as well? Please advise. We are running vCenter 6.5 and esxi 6u2.

Thank you very much!!!!

Export / import the vm. With vSphere web client you can export to .ovf.

The option to export OVF will not affect anything on the virtual machine itself, right?

Please advise!
