iSCSI luns - small or large for VMWare 5.5

Hi

I have currently got VMWare 5.5 and I will be migrating to 6.5 some time in the next 6-12 months.

I have just recently upgrade my storage to dell compellent system

I have previously run with large LUN's to hold lots of VM's

I was thinking of using vvols for when i move to 6.x

But I am currently thinking of either

1) a LUN per VM to hold all the virtual disks

or

2) a larger lun to hodl group of VM - like all of prod or all of UAT or all of TEST

I was planning on use the storage snapshots for backups.

Whats the current best practice for LUN sizing

Alex

Having more number of individual luns has its own benefits like

1. Not gonna lose complete environment in the case of corruption if we have backup the RPO/RTO will be less

2. Better performance as the IO goes to multiple chunks instead of one large datastore

Following article has additional points which may be helpful for you to decide
