Hello,
have a server with local Dual-SD module from which ESXi boots. There is enough space on it to create a local VMFS partition.
I tried partedUtil. But i get a "readonly" message.
partedUtil setptbl /vmfs/devices/disks/mpx.vmhba32\:C0\:T0\:L0 gpt "10 11315512 124735453 AA31E02A400F11
DB9590000C2911D1B8 0"
gpt
0 0 0 0
10 11315512 124735453 AA31E02A400F11DB9590000C2911D1B8 0
Error: Read-only file system during write on /dev/disks/mpx.vmhba32:C0:T0:L0
SetPtableGpt: Unable to commit to disk
I think it should be possible to create a new VMFS partition on the free space.
Does somebody has any idea?
Thank you,
Mike
I don't think ESXi is going to let you alter the partition table of a disk on which it was installed. That said, there's a reason why ESXi doesn't auto-create a VMFS datastore on flash memory like what you're trying to do, so it's usually best to not challenge that because of the heavy writes it must tolerate.
It's only for store Logs in a vSAN Cluster.
The hardware manufacturer releases the use for this.
