copy VM to external hard drive

Hi,

I want to take the backup of VM's into the external hard drive. Should I first make the template of VM and copy that template to external HD or should I export the VM as OVF template. which is the best and easy practice? Kindly recommend.

Thanks in advance,
Shahed

If this is just a one-time copy of a single VM, then exporting as OVF would be fine. If this is something that will be done more frequently or on a larger scale, then you probably should investigate a proper backup solution that allows you to write to removable external media. Veeam I know has allowances for this, possibly others as well.
