Wrong VM time sync

Hi

We have some VMs in our environment that starts getting the wrong time. We are not using an external NTP server for these VMs. We do have all our Esxi configured with an external NTP pool and they are working perfectly since we do not have this issue with most of the VMs. I tried to fix this issue by

  • enabling "Synchronize guest time with host " from the VM option
  • restart the vmtools service
  • rebooting the Guest OS

But with no luck at all. Any idea of what could be the cause of the issue.

Note. Most of these VMs are usually an OVA/OVF of customer who has a certain application that wants to deploy into our environment. They are not the vendor OVAs it's just a regular Linux distro with an application installed on it, and yes I know it stupid idea and bad practice. They could just work directly on our VMs but they are claiming that they have this pre-configured hardened OS template that they have to use. 🙂

Regards.
