When Configuring vSphere HA basic, it grabs the wrong server as the primary.

When configuring vcenter HA basic, under the tab Select IP settings for Passive and Witness nodes, the IP address for the Active node is correct, but when I select next it stats the active note is a replica that is stored in a different location.  The replica is off, and disconnected from the network but vmware is trying to make it the active node instead of the one that is currently on and running.  What am I doing wrong?

Hi brandonwinstead,

when I understand you correctly, you want to build your setup like this:

VM NamePublic IPvCenter HA IP
vcsa-01a198.51.100.1/24192.0.2.1/24
vcsa-01a_peer198.51.100.1/24 (down)192.0.2.2/24
vcsa-01a_witness192.0.2.3/24

Then you want to shut down the VM "vcsa-01a_peer", but the vCenter will power it on again?

vCenter HA is an active-standby setup, but the replication is happening on a file-based level. So the "vcsa-01a_peer" has to be powered on.

Some more information about how to set it up can be found here:

Hope this helps.
