Vsphere 7.0 configuration maximums

Hi

I was going through the "Vsphere 7.0 configuration maximums" doc and found 2 category as below

Number of PCI passthrough devices per VM -  16

VMDirectPath PCI/PCIe devices per host - 8

Can any one please explain what is the difference between above 2 categories? If PCI/PCIe devices per host is 8 how we can assign 16 Directpath device to VM?

Just guessing.... we use Nvidia (v)GPUs K1/K2/M40 and the cards can have 1,2,4 GPUs on one board. Each GPU can be assign to VM. With 7.0 its now supportet to assign multiple GPUs to VM.

With this in mind the max. configuration can make sense.

Joerg

Thanks

Number of PCI passthrough devices per VM -  16  - This make sense for me as well.

If I have 16 NVMe drives in one ESXi host and want to configure direct path to one of the VMs , I think it is possible to pass through (Direct path) 16 NVMe drives to the VM.

But what I don't get the number is  "VMDirectPath PCI/PCIe devices per host  - 8 ".
