We need to change our Vmware Licenses on our Vmware Esx hosts to an Essentials Plus License from Vmware 6 Enterprise Plus.
This is a production environment which in a single cluster and the VM's are on are a Shared NAS storage between two hosts.
Also there is a Vmware Vcenter 6 server in the current environment managing the Vmware enterprise plus infrastructure.
Can we remove the Enterprise Plus license from the host and then assign the Essentials 6 Plus license to the (2) hosts that we have in production without having to reinstall the Vmware Essentials Plus? The hosts have VMware ESXi, 6.7.0, 16713306
Will this effect the running VMs?
Unless the ESXi hosts use any features that are not included in vSphere Essentials Plus, it should be possible to replace the license keys.
However, I guess that this cannot be done while the hosts are managed by a vCenter Server Standard instance, so the steps would likely be (please note that I've never tried this myself) to remove the hosts from the vCenter Server Standard inventory, then replace the license keys on the hosts, and finally add them to your vCenter Server for Essentials instance. It may also work to assign the new license keys while adding the hosts to vCenter Server.
