Vmware Converter 6.2.1 to migrate from esxi 5.0 to 6.7

Dear,

We are trying to create a new esxi 6.7 environment from 5.0.

It might be too broad but, is it possible to use Vmware Converter to migrate vm in esxi 5.0 host to 6.7 host directly?

If it is not possible, is there any other way to migrate esxi 5.0 vm to 6.7?

And do we have to have a vCenter for the esxi hosts to use the Converter?

thanks,

Hi,

Q:

answer:

Yes, you can do it. You have to check the compatibility of your operating systems of the virtual machines, and choose the appropriate version of "Vmware converter" is compatible.

Q:

If it is not possible, is there any other way to migrate esxi 5.0 vm to 6.7?

Answer:

This is fine. However you can also do it with the free version of "Veeam backup & Replication", using the "Quick Migration" utility.

Q:

And do we have to have a vCenter for the esxi hosts to use the Converter?

Answer:

No, the migration takes place between the two Esxi

Yes. You can use vCenter converter to migrate the vms to new ESXi host. Also, you can share the temp luns between new and old esxi hosts and migrate the vm (cold migration) to shared lun and then unregister the vm from old vCenter and register the vm to new environment and then you can migrate the vm to normal datastore.

Also, on target environment if not have vCenter then you can connect esxi host instead to initiate migration.
