I looked into the threads under this response. The real question remains unanswered:

How a virtual datastore (vvol datastore) be created using powerCLI?

It seems the powerCLI up to version 10 has no such capability. This is strange and a big gap in powercli cmdlet New-datastore that vvol option is not provided, not sure what is the logic here. A lack of this capability in powerCLI prevents from complete automation of VVOL setup - one of the key goals of VVOL capability implemented to ease the task of storage and vpsphere management.

I am also trying to look into alternatives, such as creating vvol datatstore using esxcli. I came across one EMC site with this:

/stor/prov/vmware/vvolds create [-async] -name  [-descr ] -cp  -size  -type { block | file } [- hosts ]

But, I could not get the command /stor/prov/vmware/vvolds on my ESXi host.

AFAIK, command line creation of vVOL datastores is not out yet. Regarding creating the same from the EMC storage box, I think you are using the wrong command. Moreover the commands need to be run on the EMC box, not on the ESXi host -

uemcli -d 10.1.55.1 -u Local/username -p passwd123 /stor/prov/vmware/vvolds create –name “HR” –cp cp_1,cp_2 –size 10G, 12G –type file –hosts “HostA,HostB”
