i search in the directory of the VM i found the VMDK still exist but with different name it added (s001) to the orginal name and the icon of the VMDK different than the normal VMDK files.

we try to rename it but issue still exist.

Please help...

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

https://pubs.vmware.com/ws6_ace2/ws/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=ws&file=ws_learnin...

If you specified that the files can grow, the file names have an s in the file number (for example, Windows XP Professional-s001.vmdk.)

If you specified that the virtual disk should be split into 2GB chunks, the number of .vmdk files depends on the size of the virtual disk. As data is added to a virtual disk, the .vmdk files grow, to a maximum of 2GB each.

Could you do a Storage vMotion of this VM to a different Datastore and then check ?

If you still have issues, please attach the vmware.log for our analysis.

Witch ESXi version do you currently use?

I'm asking because of the file name that you've mentioned. Such files are used by e.g. VMware Workstation, or Player, and are not supported anymore with current ESXi versions.

Anyway, does the VM's folder contain vmware*.log files, which have not been overwritten yet. If yes, please attach them to a reply post. It may also help, if you'd post a complete list of files in the VM's folder. For this, please run the command ls -lisa from the command line to list the VM's files, and provide the command's output.
