Our temporary solution for the Meltdown/Spectre vulnerability is to install ESXi600-201711101-SG on all of our ESXi 6.0 hosts, as I'm sure many others are doing. Because I'm responsible for Windows VMs, I've been told that I need to open a support case with Microsoft for them to attest to the compatibility of the patch. Since this is not a MS patch, I don't see how they are going to be able to do that. Is there anything within the VMware site that I can quote which suggests compatibility with Windows 2008 through Windows 2016 guests? Has anyone has issues with Windows guests after applying the patch?
I'm sure there are thousands of Windows guests running on hosts which have received this patch and this one may not be any more of a risk than any other host level patch we've installed in the past, but.....
I would never be posting a question like this on my own. Our director has tasked me with this. I'm not in a position to argue with him, but I think if I have something from VMware as opposed to Microsoft he will be satisfied.
Thanks for any recommendations.
Frist of all, the patch is for ESXI in this case, with patch you dont touch nothing of any VM guest, but you have to carefull when you install this fix, because the ESXI do a update to a new build version, and if your vCenter server is less of the build version, your esxi host couldnt conect after the reboot
And in case of MS Windows, i give u that table with the KB you need it
Operating System Version | Update KB |
Windows Server, version 1709 (Server Core Installation) | |
Windows Server 2016 | |
Windows Server 2012 R2 | |
Windows Server 2012 | No hay disponible |
Windows Server 2008 R2 | |
Windows Server 2008 | No hay disponible |
Windows 10 (RTM, 1511, 1607, 1703, 1709), Windows 8.1, Windows 7 SP1 |

Have you started upgrading your esx hosts to this version yet? Can you provide any feedback?
Thanks
