Dear vmware community,
I have tried vSphere v5.5 and just upgraded to v6.5u1 (Custom HP image).
Registering for a free license for v5.5 wasn't a problem, however...
When visiting the direct link: https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/evalcenter?p=free-esxi6 , I am being redirected to the v7 page.
I didn't think too much of it at the time so I went ahead and registerd for a free license.
But uhm... I currently have a v7 license and only have v6.5u1 installed.
My hardware isn't supported for v7 and I'd really like to try out v6.5
Google didn't help much so I am hoping you guys can help me.
Is there any way I can get a Free License for v6.5 to try out?
Otherwise I think I have to find a way to do a rollback...
wkr,
Pieter
Hi,
unfortunately it is no longer available.

As far as I am aware the 6.x "free" license is closed.
There is no public way to get a free version of the 6.x license.
If you have a VMware TAM/SAM or sales team, they might be able to help you with a license, but I can't guarantee that.
The free license is only available for the current latest release of ESXi.
If you have your 5.5 media you might be able to re-install...
If you upgraded recently, the [shift] [R] keys during the boot loader might roll you back to 5.5...
Kind regards,
Fouad

It looks like 6.7 access has been restored today, I"m not sure how long it will be available:
As of today, this is still a good link: Download VMware vSphere Hypervisor for Free
Thanks for this!
