VMs are inaccessible!

We have some hosts with a shared iSCSI storage, The storage is a software based iscsi (Open-E Soho)

Some days ago we had a power outage, After booting the hosts and the storage, I saw VMs on the shared storage are inaccessible. All local VMs were ok.

I could not see shared storage in the host's storage list.

I did a rescan (VMware Knowledge Base ) then shared storage appeared and VMs became available, so the problem solved.

But why this should happen?

I used Static Discovery method to add the iscsi targets, is it the reason?

Is there any misconfiguration?

Hi,

When the power came back, were the hosts turned on before ISCI ?? because the storage where the vms are must always be turned on before the Hosts Esxi, otherwise they are not seen and are inaccessible.

Hi Alessandro,

You are right! The storage had turned on after the Hosts.

Is there any way to resolve this problem in the future? in other hand, is there any way to make VMs accessible automatically, when the storage is turned on after Hosts? for example some kind of auto searching or periodically searching for available LUNs?

Hi,

I'm happy that it worked out.

Unfortunately no, the only way would be to put a UPS that supports the power failure

We configure a boot delay within the BIOS of our PowerEdge Server which only kicks after a power outtage and apply not when normal rebooting.
