VMotion with standard switches

Hello,

Is it possible to perform live VM migrations between two servers using standard switches instead of distributed switches using VCenter Server and the Essentials Plus licence? Is there any particular configuration or just mimic the network configuration of both hosts so the VM, once lands on the peer host is automatically assigned to the correct port-group?

Thanks.

vMotion works with both, Standard, and Distributed vSwitches.

With current vSphere version you will have the option to change/select the port group for the VM in the migration wizard.

Yes it is possible. But using the same naming scheme on both Hosts makes it a little bit easier because you have just to click next, next, next and finished. With current vCenters/WebClient you also can change the portgroup in the last step of the migration wizzard.

Same Portgroup names on all hosts are a requirement for a working vSphere HA.

Joerg
