VMotion Live Migraton Fails – A general system error occurred: vim.faultNotFound

Hopefully someone will have some ideas on this one.

2 x Esxi servers + Dell Equalogic SAN.

vSphere Client v6.0.0

We can live migrate some but not all of the servers between the two hosts. The ones that fail to migrate all report A general system error occurred: vim.fault.NotFound.

We are not configured with Distributed Virtual Switches so we should not have the 'known' issue of the port numbers being incorrect..

Any help would be appreciated.

If you dont have DVSwitch , could you try to unregister VM and register it back post that try to vmotion and check if it still reports the same error

-->Also check in the host.log with the VM name and see it is reporting any particular error.

-->Try to migrate VM to a different datastore and then try to perform VMotion and check of that makes any difference.

Finally you can try to reboot the host .

Thanks for the suggestion, we tried unregistering and re-registering on one of the VM's and were able to move it to another host but still can't migrate it.

Does the VM have any special configuration, or snapshots?

Please attach the VM's vmware.log file to a reply post to see whether this file contains any hints regarding the issue.

The issue is affecting VM's that are already on different datastores. I'll try moving a small affected VM between stores out of hours tonight, both hosts have been restarted since this issue was discovered.
