VMUpgradeHelper service

vCenter : 6.7 U3

Esxi : 6.7 U3

Version vmware-tools : 11.0.1

OS VM : W12R2FR

Hello,

Could you inform me about the "VMUpgradeHelper" service.

I understood that this service could be used during migration to save or restore the network configuration.

But is it normal that it is launched at each stop and each start of the VM.

is it just used as its name suggests for the phases of upgrade, or is it simply the service which takes care of saving and restoring the network configuration at each shutdown / restart

shutdown VM

thank you for your explanation

HI,

"VMUpgradeHelper" is periodically saving the network configuration of the virtual machine.

It is normal that it is started every time the VM is stopped and started, because it must record any changes in the configuration.

Hi Alessandro,

Thank you for your reply. I did understand that the data could be saved regularly and also when stopped, but it was the configuration restore action that questioned me.

As "VMUpgradeHelper" restore the network configuration at the start of the VM, is this an action which allows to maintain a certain consistency of the configuration, a security?

Thanks for all,

Quick Question?

Can the VMUpgradeHelper Change the IP address on a Windows Server?

For example, if we change our IP could it change it back to the old one again after a reboot?

Something is changing our IP and want to rule it out
