Topic Name : Hardware Features Available with Virtual Machine Compatibility Settings

Publication Name : vSphere Virtual Machine Administration

Product/Version : VMware vSphere/6.7

Question :

as per the document(VMware_vSphere_Version_Comparison_40-41-50-51-55-60-65.pdf), VM hardware version 11 support 64TB, is it really true?  I had a situation my vm stopped responding after 4TB of usage. Could you update me your feedback to jobi.samuel@cz.ibm.com ?

the possible vmdk-size does not depent on the virtual hardware version but to the esxi-version. but since 5.5u3 a vmdk can have 62TB, so there is no limit.

vmfs3 had a limit, but i hope your datastores are vmfs5 or vmfs6?

These articles both mention ESXi version and the underlying storage type, but not the VM hardware version:
