VMDK.Files issue

Dear Team,

I have VMware 6.5 ESXi host in my environment.  I would like to discuss with VMware expertise regarding my issues.

Following are Environment Structure.

  • Datastore1 is 500GB and we have 4-VMs running on it.
  • Datastore2 (Data Drive 19TB) in which users data are available.
  • The disk is configured as the Thin provision with 2 part ion.
  • D drive
  • E drive

Following action were taken

  • Snapshot were taken

Error

  • Snapshot was failed.
  • After that Hdd was filled with whole 18TB
  • There was vmdk.-01
  • After that created new vmdk files saying vmdk.2
  • After that it created one more vmdk files saying vmdk3
  • Consolidation warning occurred
  • I Tried consolidation and the consolidation was failed

Action taken by us

  • Due to this was our domain controller Server we wanted to start the server we downloaded the vmdk3 file and after that we booted the server.
  • After server was started, we lost some data and I noticed the server moved 1week before.
  • After that try upload the vmdk.3 file which we have took the backup on the data store. And tried to consolidate again
  • Luckily Consolidation was successful but the data was not available and also the vmdk.3 files was not combined with the (Core Almas Domain Controller_1.vmdk,,Core Almas Domain Controller_1-000001.vmdk)
  • Trial purpose I was having the all the vmdk file and we tried in our test server to get consolidate those vmdk files but we were unsuccessful for doing that.

Current Status

  1. 1.    Server has now two vmdk files
  2. 2.    Core Almas Domain Controller_1.vmdk (hdd status is full)
  3. 3.    Core Almas Domain Controller_1-000001.vmdk ( hdd status not full)

Required VMware Expertise Feedback

  • Does this issue can be resolved?
  • Can we consolidate all the Hdd?
  • Can we make the server in a normal position back?
  • We need the data backup it really important for us.

Please let me know ASAP with the solution If you guys can fix than I can log a case in Vmware and take the support from you genius guys.
