VM looses network connection when expanding virtual disk size

We are noticing that vm's are loosing network connectivity when expanding the virtual hard disk.  Need to solve this problem.

Opened a case with VMware and found that for VM's that have their Storage Type as EagerZeroedThick, this happens because the VM is stunned while the virtual disk is expanded.  To prevent this you need to do a Storage vMotion and change the Storage Type to Lazy Thick.  Then expand the virtual disk and Storage vMotion it and change it back to Eager Thick.  Or do the expansion after hours.
