VM checklist

Do a document on new virtual machines (files, components etc)

As part of this looking to include a checklist which staff can use before deploying new virtual machines

We have our template, does anyone have a rough virtual machine checklist I can use as a reference before adapting it

  1. If you have multiple clusters and datastores make sure VM deployed on correct environment.
  2. Requested resources are allocated ( like ram, cpu, disk, nic)
  3. Correct VLANs are assigned.
  4. Disk type as per request.
  5. VMware tools and hardware version are up to date.
  6. If you have permissions assigned in folder level, vm should be placed under correct folder.
  7. IP check ( if you assign ip also).

Have a look at the free powershell tool "vCheck"
It has plugins that analyse various VM parameters.
You can use that as a reference as well as a tool to collect actual data of your existing VMs.
