  • 1.  VM Performance and CPU, Cores per Socket and Sockets

In our VCenter 6.5 environment when configuring a VM with a certain number of CPUs, is performance affected with different Cores per Socket values?  For example, how does 4 CPUs and 1 core/socket compare to 4 and 2 or 4 and 4 which all are 4 vCPUs with 4, 2 and 1 socket, respectively?  I can see playing with these numbers affects licensing but I'm more curious about performance.  Don't want to make any assumptions for a virtual machine based upon how a physical box would run.

The Cores-Per-Socket option was originally introduced to grant a user more flexibility when it came to license restrictions for OSes running on VMs, and isn't going to affect your performance in any noticeable amount.
