VM Monitoring of vSphere HA

Hi,

Is the vm monitoring function of vSphere HA effective even if there is only one host in the cluster?

I want to utilize only the function of restarting the vm in the same host if it hangs.

[Overview]

vCenter Server (v6.0 u2)

    ┗Datacenter

          ┗Cluster

               ┗ESXi#1 (v6.0 u2)

Don't. 02 hosts required to create Cluster and and get the HA functionalities.

On which host you're going to restart VMs when there is single host. Instead of this, configure VM autostart Edit Virtual Machine Startup and Shutdown Settings

Let me know if you're trying to do something different.

vijayrana968 and gmbarros,

Thank you for your answers!

I confirm the requirement that "A cluster must contain at least two hosts.".

I have one more question regarding design.

Are there any pros to create a cluster even if there is only one host.

In Hands-on lab, the system configuration is as follows:

There is only one host in the cluster.

cluster.PNG

[Hands-on lab] HOL-1811-01-SDC-MYVMW-HOL

https://my.vmware.com/en/group/vmware/evalcenter?p=vsphere-18-hol

However, vSphere HA does not work.

What is the point of that?

Now I'm wondering which is better?

vCenter Server (v6.0 u2)

          ┗Cluster

               ┗ESXi#1 (v6.0 u2)

[B]

If you are looking for the features of HA and DRS to work in this way then this isn't gonna work in this way with single host. The lab you mentioned is for introduction to new features of vSphere 6.5 (GA). In this way with one host you can test/do following things.

1. Use update manager with vCenter and ESXI host.

2. Use host profiles.

3. Manage security/permissions.

4. Use distributed switch.

There are few more. On HA & DRS cluster level you can explore features to check how's they look like but these aren't gonna work unless you added minimum 2 hosts in cluster.

Hi vijayrana968,

Thank you very much indeed.

Your explanation enhanced my understanding.
