V to V error "unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine"

Hello All

so I am trying to do a V to V migration of a RHEL 5 VM from a ESX4.0 to 6.5 server.

I have done this about 12 times so far and even migrated the (A) version of this VM previously without any issues.

just to be clear we have redundant VM's there is an A server and a B server I successfully migrated the A server a few weeks ago that was running on a different ESX server.

These are the errors i'm getting;

"unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine"

and when I clicked on the (view source details) at the bottom right corner of the converter tool it displayed:

"A general system error occurred: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it"\

I'm running version 6.1.1 of the conversion tool

and I was able to V to V another VM from that same ESX server earlier.

any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Paul.

Specific error should be found in converter-worker log, could you upload log-bundle?

Also you should check that user running the GUI has sufficient rights on your VM

also check this KB

thank you so much for getting back to me

I may be blind, but how can I attach the file to this post??  I don't see the option anywhere.

So I have used this converter multiple time and also on the ESX server that is hosting the VM i'm trying to V to V without issue.

the Doc in the link is for doing a P to V which does not pertain to me, but I will be doing some later so thank you for the info.

I tried running the converter a few times and received the same error, I hope this log has the info you are looking for.

thanks again.

Paul.

Hello Ranchuab

so I tried to verify if the workload manager was running but I don't see that exact name in the services??

I can tell you there are a handfull of services not running and non of those look to be workload manager.

I have also attached the log file.

Please upload whole log bundle. The converter-worker.log/converter-agent.log are most important.

I found below community link for the same .

vim.fault.NotAuthenticated at 26% using VMWare converter 6.1.1

Hello Ranchuab,

So I noticed something today that I didn't notice before.

I edited the settings of the VM that is giving me the trouble moving and wanted to see the size of the disk

when I opened up the settings it showed a size of 0 "zero"

I think this may be the problem with the vm not being able to be migrated "V to V"

How can I go about correcting that??
