Upgrade only CPU-microcode VIB

I've currently got 2 older ESXi hosts that are running VM's and the hosts are patched to ESXi 6.5 EP 09.

In a new cluster we have 2 new HCI nodes that I'm wanting to migrate all the running VM's to.  These HCI nodes are patched to ESXi 6.5 U2b as that is the highest version of ESXi that is currently supported (another story for another day).  The problem I am running into is that I can't vmotion the VM's because of com.vmware.vim.vmfeature.cpuid.fcmd which is released in ESXi650-201808402-BG.  This is released with the patch 1 version of ahead of what I'm allowed to go to.

With all that said my question is can I install a cpu-microcode VIB without patching to that version of ESXi?  I've tried searching everywhere but can't find any info.  If not I can always cold vmotion the VM's but I'm trying to avoid that.

Doesn't the HCI vendor offer a BIOS/Microcode update?

Although I would assume that a vib update may work (it should only update an older microcode), I actually would not want to test it without the HCI vendor's confirmation.
