Unable to increase datastore size over 16 TB

Hello everyone,

I have a vSphere infrastructure on 6.5.0 for one year.

After increasing our local storage to 20 TB, I experienced problem to increase the datastore from 16 Tb to 20 Tb.

After reading VMware document (VMware Knowledge Base ), I saw that problem was well known and an upgrade to 6.5U2 was necessary. So I did.

But even after update, I'm already unable to increase the datastore size.

Does anyone have experienced the same problem and fixed it?

thank you in advance.

Hi,

Thank you for your answer Alessandro, but the problem that I figured out is different : my LUN is correctly reported as 20 Tb but, when trying to increase the Datastore up to 20 Tb, no volume is presented to me by the wizard.

In the same way, trying to increase it from CLI (with parted) is impossible because VMware reports only 16 Tb.

No problem with VM VMDK allocation.

Rescan the storage adapters to ensure that Extent Device list contains updated list and then use the Increase option.

Was I helpful? Give a kudo for appreciation!

Unfortunetly, as explain in my question, I was under the VMware KB 56524 circumpstances (VMware Knowledge Base ) , fixed up in 6.5 U2.

My problem is after applying 6.5 U2, I'm always unable to increase datastore size over 16 Tb even after rescan, reboot, and all standard commands.

My thought is the 6.5 U2 fixes the problem for future datastores, but not for existing datastores...

So my question is : how to fix up existing datastores ?

Hi,

If possible, you can try the alternative solution proposed in your document, for existing LUNs.

Unfortunetly, it's not possible to move VM's on another storage so that's why this workaround wasn't used.
