Unable to edit VM Disks size - ESXi 6.5

Hello all,

We have an ESXi host and I am unable to edit the disk size. There are no snapshots for that VM. SCSI Controller is used for the disks. I have also tried creating a snapshot and deleting all but o change. If I shutdown the machine , ofcourse I get the option but not sure why I do not get an option while machine is running. Only possible thing that I thought could prevent this from happening is snapshots but there are none.

I tried vmkfstools to increase the size but I get this error message

Failed to open virtual disk (<servername>_0.vmdk): Failed to lock the file (16392)

Any leads will be appreciated.

Thanks

Do you have multiple datastores or hypervisors? Just try to migrate the VM to another datastore and/or hypervisor and try again afterwards.

Or: can you do a disk consolidation? (is located in the snapshot submenu)

How is a virtual disk attached? is it a sata\ide disk or SCSI disk?

Thanks for your reply. Single datastore it is. 1TB space left. Already tried disk consolidation

Thanks

Which version/build of ESXi, and which version/build of the vSphere Client do you use?

If you are using an early version of the ESXi Embedded Host Client, you may consider to update it to the latest available build to see whether this helps.
