Ubuntu VM crashes upon startup

Hi,

An Ubuntu VM was restarted by HA to another host however it keeps crashing during bootup (CPU at 100%).

From console I see a list of processes Started but all have the green OK

I checked the VM log file but could not see any specific error but might need some guidance on what to look for to troubleshoot cause?

Common steps you recommend?

Thanks

Can you please define crash?

Does the VM fail as in the VM powers off by itself?

Does the OS crash? as in the ubuntu reboots back to the "VMware" boot screen?

From your description it honestly sounds like an OS level issue, rather than a VMware level issue...

Are any other VM's impacted?

Kind regards,

Fouad

yes definitely an OS level issue so probably this forum mith not be appropriate although the VM is hosted on ESXi and issue started after HA failed over VM.

Let me know if you can still recommend any logs to check for the VM to would help with troubleshooting the 100% CPU usage (what I defined as crash as VM becomes unresponsive)

Can I learn the esxi version and ubuntu version? It may be the version originated bug. Also, is there vmware tools on the server?
