We have some students which are to run som CAD programs which require access to USB Dongles to verify licens, old fasioned but thats how is it.
I'm considering one from Digi.com
What would you use for ESXi 6.7 Hosts in a vCenter?

You don't need hypervisor support for that - normally these boxes come with a software that connects the USB device to the VM. I've been using myUTN devices and they kept running for years without a single flaw.
